Memo lives and works in Costa Rica, and loves his country dearly. Tourism has had a big effect on Costa Rica, although not all of it in a positive way. Memo aims to provide an environmentally and socially responsible service to his clients and to his home country.
For example, Memo will stop along the way to observe wild animals with you, but will never encourage feeding them, because although it can be a great tourist attraction, feeding wild animals makes them rely and eventually depend on human visitors for their feed, which not only separates them from their natural state of being, but also results in many animals being run over, as they get used to approaching vehicles as a source of food.
One of the great things Memo is engaged in is encouraging clients who wish to contribute to the wellbeing of Costa Rican people to bring school materials when they come over. Simple things like pens, colouring pens, notebooks and other items can really make a difference in poorer areas. If you bring such materials with you, Memo will take them to the schools in need - and if you wish to he can take you there to deliver them personally!
Memo always makes sure that no garbage is left behind after a tour and takes it all away in his vehicle. We ask for your cooperation in achieving this. Since recycling facilities are very scarce in Costa Rica, he is engaging in a campaign to ask the government to make them more available to the people. Foreign voices always carry extra weight, so ask him about signing your name to the petition!
Tourism can be a source of exploitation, or a source of healthy growth - Memo's aim is to contribute to the latter, with your help!
